Principal’s Message
Happy New Year! Each morning at our morning exercise we recite the school mission statement, pledge to the flag, school creed and sing our alma mater. We also recognize birthdays and have a word of the day from our Project Wisdom program. I would like to share a Project Wisdom reading with you as we welcome in 2012. Here is the reading for the first school day of the New Year.
“Welcome back, students, and Happy New Year: This is the traditional time of year for setting goals. It’s called making a New Year’s resolution. When we make resolutions, we set goals for the coming year. Goals give our lives direction. They help us figure out where we are going and how we will get there. When we write down our goals, we are making a road map into the future. Today, take the time to write down your goals for this semester. When you are writing down your goals, remember these words: Climb high. Climb far. Your goal the sky. Your aim the stars. Then put the list of your goals in a safe place. When you start to get sidetracked or lost, you can pull them out and remember where it is you want to go and how you want to get there.”
At the end of each reading I say, “Make it a great day or not”, and the students respond with “the choice is yours”. Well the choice is ours and as we begin this New Year, take time to reflect on the choices we make and the goals we set for our future and the future of our precious babies.
Report Card Conferences
We are now halfway through the school year. It is very important that you are aware of your child’s progress in school. Tuesday, January 10th is our report card conference day. Please make plans to attend between the hours of 3:30 and 5:30PM. After report card conferences please stay for the January PTO meeting. Our Parent Liaison will have activities ongoing between 3:30 and 5:30 so you can pick up your child’s report card and also get important information at our Title I Parent Workshop! Our teachers will be notifying parents of mandatory conferences which must be held with parents whose child is in danger of failing due to not meeting state attendance requirements, and/or not meeting academic requirements. At the conference, those parents will be asked to sign a Student Study Educational Plan. Your child’s teacher will recommend in school interventions and also things that need to be done away from school to help your child succeed. Working together we can make a difference in the education of our students.
Improve your Concentration
Are you looking for a fun way to improve your child’s focus and concentration? Here is a tip from the Home/School Connection. Try this quick game. The first player makes one motion, like clapping or spinning around. The second person copies the motion and adds another movement. Continue adding new motions until someone forgets the sequence. The last player to get it right starts a new game.
